The Lake District has been a source of inspiration to many writers in the past including Arthur Ransome who lived in Coniston, 1930-67 and used settings from Windermere, Coniston Water and Tarn Hows for his Swallows and Amazons books. Peel Island in Coniston Water becomes Wild Cat Island in Swallows and Amazons.
Calm Inlet draws it's inspiration from the stories of Arthur Ransome.
